Krameria triandra
This comes from a shrub which can be found in the high deserts of the Andes in South America. the chopped roots are rich in tannins and so a mordant is not required. By varying the pH of the dye bath will alter the colours achieved.
Can be used as it is, but I have found it is best extracted in alcohol which will release up to 95% of the dye from the roots.
Use at 100g to 100g of fibers.
The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = Deep brown red
Alum + Citric Acid = Orange
Alum + Ammonia = Deep brown red
Alum + Copper = Medium brown red
Alum + Iron = brown
Not food safe, so please do not make a drink with this dye.
Comes in a bag of 100g in weight.
